SERAMA INFORMATION
The Serama (aka Malaysian Serama, Ayam Serama, or American Serama) is the smallest breed of chicken in the world, averaging anywhere from 6 to 12 ounces in weight and 6 inches to 10 inches in height. The Serama originated in Kelantan, Malaysia, and is believed to be the result of selective cross-breeding of many bantam breeds.
Seramas make beautiful indoor and/or outdoor pets and are inexpensive to keep as each only consumes about one pound of feed per month. Because of their small size, Serama require very little space. Two or three Seramas can comfortably be caged in a 24” x 18” enclosure. Seramas make great companions while gardening and their natural beauty adds to the enjoyment of any garden or home.
The Serama Council of North America (SCNA) has presented a “Standard of Perfection” for the American Serama, detailed on our Serama Standard of Perfection page, for the purpose of encouraging development of the Serama and to gain acceptance by the American Bantam Association and American Poultry Association in all of it colors and varieties.
